Riverland Community College dropped a tightly contested game to Miles Community College, 8–7, despite a strong offensive showing on Friday.
Miles struck early with a run in the first and a five-run second inning to take control, but Riverland responded throughout the game to stay within striking distance. The Blue Devils plated two runs in the second and erupted for four runs in the fourth to tie the game, later adding another run in the fifth.
Riverland finished with 13 hits on the day, highlighted by standout performances across the lineup. Freshman utility Austin Swenson (Adams, MN) led the way, going 3-for-3 with a double, triple, and two RBI. Sophomore infielder Peyton Ransom (Austin, MN) added three hits and an RBI, while freshman infielder Carson Gehrke (Oregon, WI) and freshman infielder Christiaan Koehler (Red Wing, MN) each recorded two hits. Sophomore outfielder Jonathan Mora (Miami, FL) contributed a double and drove in two runs.
On the mound, sophomore pitcher Peyton Ransom (Austin, MN) worked six innings, allowing four earned runs while striking out three. Sophomore outfielder Dylan Carlson (Edgeley, ND) came on in relief and was tagged with the loss as Miles pushed across the go-ahead run in the bottom of the seventh.
Miles totaled 11 hits and took advantage of key scoring opportunities, including the decisive run in the final inning to secure the win.
Riverland showed resilience throughout, battling back multiple times and holding a late lead before Miles responded in the closing frame.
