Riverland Defeats Rainy River

Riverland Community College held off a late push to defeat Minnesota North College–Rainy River 6–5 in a tightly contested matchup.

Rainy River struck first with a run in the opening inning, but Riverland responded with a three-run second inning to take control. The Blue Devils added two more runs in the fourth and another in the sixth, building a lead that proved just enough to withstand a late rally.

Riverland totaled eight hits in the game, with several players contributing key performances. Carson Gehrke led the way with a perfect 2-for-2 day and scored twice, while Ethan Mott added two hits and drove in a pair of runs. Roland Figueroa scored twice and drove in a run, and Christiaan Koehler added an RBI.

On the mound, Khalil Fernandez delivered a complete-game effort to earn the win, allowing five runs (four earned) on nine hits while striking out five.

Rainy River closed the gap with two runs in the seventh inning, but Riverland was able to hold on to secure the victory.

Defensively, the Blue Devils overcame three errors, while taking advantage of two Rainy River miscues.
