Riverland Completes Series Sweep Over Minnesota West

The Riverland Community College baseball team capped off a strong day at the plate with a 9-8 victory over Minnesota West on April 13, completing the doubleheader sweep.

In a back-and-forth contest, Riverland used consistent offensive pressure to stay in front. The Blue Devils broke through with three runs in the fourth inning and continued to add on, ultimately holding off a late push from Minnesota West.

Riverland totaled 14 hits in the win, with multiple players turning in strong performances. Freshman SS Christiaan Koehler (Red Wing, MN) led the way with three hits, including a home run, and three RBIs. Freshman LF Hideki Ohira added three hits and an RBI, while Sophomore CF Roland Figueroa (Arecibo, PR) contributed two hits and scored twice.

Sophomore OF Ben Helfer (Zumbrota, MN) chipped in two hits and an RBI, and sophomore 3B Raul Martinez (Santa Isabel, PR) and sophomore 2B Peyton Ransom (Austin, MN) each drove in a run as part of the balanced offensive attack.

On the mound, Ransom earned the complete game victory, allowing eight runs on 10 hits while striking out six.
