The Riverland Community College baseball team came up short in a high-scoring matchup on April 15, falling 7-5 to Ridgewater College in the second game of the doubleheader.
Ridgewater capitalized on a big fourth inning to take control, scoring four runs to build a lead Riverland was unable to fully erase despite multiple rallies.
The Blue Devils struck early with two runs in the first inning and continued to chip away, but Ridgewater answered throughout the middle innings to maintain its advantage.
Riverland finished with seven hits, led by sophomore 2B Peyton Ransom (Austin, MN), who reached base multiple times and scored twice. Freshman 1B Carson Gehrke (Oregon, WI) drove in two runs, while sophomore OF Ben Helfer (Zumbrota, MN) also added two RBIs with a double. Freshman C Ethan Mott (Rockford, IL) contributed an RBI as part of the balanced effort.
On the mound, Riverland used multiple arms in relief. Travis Kirtz, Melvin Ortiz, and Ryan Hall each worked out of the bullpen, with Ortiz finishing the game with a scoreless inning.
