The Riverland Community College baseball team earned a 6-4 victory over Minnesota Post Grad on April 22, using an early lead and strong pitching depth to secure the win.
Riverland built momentum early and carried a 5-0 advantage into the late innings before weathering a late push from Minnesota Post Grad, who scored four runs in the eighth inning to cut the deficit.
The Blue Devils responded immediately with a key insurance run in the bottom half of the inning and held on in the ninth to seal the win.
Riverland finished with 11 hits, led by sophomore 3B Raul Martinez (Santa Isabel, PR), who went 3-for-4 with three runs scored. Freshman LF Hideki Ohira delivered the biggest offensive impact, driving in three runs, while sophomore 2B Peyton Ransom (Austin, MN) and sophomore utility Dave Gonzaga (Santa Isabel, PR) each added RBI doubles.
Gonzaga also contributed on the mound, combining with multiple arms in a bullpen effort that helped secure the win. Freshman RHP Justin Joriman (Roseville, MN) earned the victory with three scoreless innings of relief, while sophomore Khalil Fernandez (Arecibo, PR) picked up the save.
Minnesota Post Grad was held to six hits but capitalized on a late home run surge in the eighth inning before Riverland shut the door.
