Riverland Sweeps Minnesota Post Grad

Riverland Community College capped off a strong day with a 6-1 win over Minnesota Post Grad on April 29.

After surrendering a run in the top of the first, Riverland (32-12) responded immediately with three runs in the bottom half of the inning to take control. The Devils added another run in the second and two more in the third to build a 6-1 lead they would not relinquish.

Riverland totaled nine hits in the contest, with freshman 1B Carson Gehrke (Oregon, WI) and freshman utility Austin Swenson (Adams, MN) each collecting two hits to lead the offense. Swenson drove in a run and doubled twice, while sophomore CF Roland Figueroa (Ponce, PR) and sophomore RF Ben Helfer (Zumbrota, MN) each added an RBI. Sophomore 2B Peyton Ransom (Austin, MN) also contributed an RBI as the Devils received production throughout the lineup.

On the mound, freshman RHP Blake Hershberger (1-0) earned the win with four solid innings, allowing just one run (unearned) on one hit while striking out four. Sophomore RHP Dave Gonzaga (Santa Isabel, PR) was dominant in relief, tossing three shutout innings and allowing just one hit while striking out two to secure the victory.

Minnesota Post Grad was limited to just two hits on the day as Riverland pitching controlled the game from start to finish.
