St. Mary’s JV Powers Past Riverland, 6–1

The Riverland Community College men's soccer team dropped a tough non-conference match on Sunday, falling 6–1 to St. Mary's JV.

St. Mary's jumped out early, scoring in the 16th minute to take a 1–0 lead. Riverland answered just a minute later when Owen Spaeth (Rochester, MN) buried a shot off an assist from Nick Asmus (Austin, MN), leveling the match at 1–1. But the visitors quickly responded with two more first-half goals, sending Riverland into the break trailing 3–1.

The second half was controlled by St. Mary's, who added three more goals to pull away for the 6–1 final.

Riverland generated quality chances, recording 11 shots on goal, led by Nitor Egbarin (Lagos, Nigeria) (4 SOG) and Abdullahi Atanda Aderogba (Lagos, Nigeria) (4 SOG). Spaeth accounted for the lone Blue Devil goal, while Asmus tallied the assist.

In goal, Ricardo Guedez (Guanare-Portuguesa, Venezuela) and Ethan Brown (Ramsey, England) split time evenly. Guedez made three saves in the opening 45 minutes, while Brown stopped six shots in the second half.

The Blue Devils (5-4-1) overall & (2-0-1) MCAC - 1st Place will look to regroup as they play a key conference matchup on the road Wednesday at Minnesota West.
