Blue Devils Advance to NJCAA Region XIII Championship with 3–1 Win

Riverland Community College men's soccer took care of business Thursday night, earning a 3–1 victory over Anoka-Ramsey Community College in the NJCAA Region XIII semifinal. The win sends the Blue Devils to the Region Championship match.

Riverland struck first midway through the opening half when Josh Jones (Wirral, England) finished off a pass from Joel Thawng (Austin, MN) in the 17th minute to give RCC a 1–0 lead heading into halftime.

Early in the second half, the Blue Devils doubled their advantage as Abdullahi Atanda Aderogba (Lagos, Nigeria) continued his strong form, converting in the 53rd minute off an assist from Flynn Perry (Farnham, England). Anoka-Ramsey pulled one back just three minutes later on an own goal to make it 2–1, but Riverland quickly regained control.

In the 78th minute, Atanda Aderogba added his second of the night — again set up by Thawng — to seal the 3–1 result.

Riverland goalkeeper Ricardo Guedez (Guanare-Portuguesa, Venezuela) made two saves in the win, while the Blue Devil defense held the Rams without a registered shot on goal in the match.

Atanda Aderogba led the attack with six shots and three on target, scoring twice. Jones, Thawng, and Perry also factored into the scoring effort, with Thawng tallying a pair of assists.

The victory improves Riverland's record to 8–6–1 overall (3–2–1 MCAC) as they advance to the Region XIII Championship match.
