Riverland returned home Saturday afternoon but ran into a red-hot Northland squad that executed at a high level from start to finish, falling 115–35.
Northland set the tone early with a 35–2 opening quarter and never looked back, shooting an impressive 59.8% from the field and finishing with five players scoring in double figures.
Riverland found a rhythm in the second half, scoring 16 points in the third quarter, their highest output of the afternoon. Ellasyn Carrier (Houston, MN) and Sydney Shelby (Homer, AK) each scored 9 points, while Kyana Hutchinson (Seward, AK) added 8 points off the bench. Najima Hassan (Mankato, MN) led the team with 7 points and 4 assists while battling heavy defensive pressure.
Despite the offensive struggles, Riverland continued to compete defensively and on the glass, with Carrier pulling down a team-high 7 rebounds and Shelby adding 5 boards.
Northland's defensive pressure played a major role, forcing 38 Riverland turnovers, which translated into high-percentage transition scoring throughout the contest.
Riverland will look to bounce back Next Saturday going on the road to Itasca.
