Title: Head Coach
Phone: (952) 807-2075

Derek Hahn was named head baseball coach at Riverland Community College in May 2018. In his inaugural season at the helm RCC finished 32-14 (15-1 MCAC South) qualifying for the NJCAA Region XIII Tournament in St. Cloud. The Blue Devils were MCAC Southern Division Champions in 2019 and Hahn was tabbed MCAC Southern Division Coach of the Year. In the spring of 2020 RCC made their southern trip to Tucson, Arizona in March to kickoff the year. Riverland was off to a good start to their spring trip with wins over NJCAA D2 power Miles Community College and NJCAA D1 Eastern Arizona through it's first six games. However, the COVID-19 Pandemic brought an abrupt halt to the trip and ultimately the season. With the strong support for Blue Devil athletics from the administration at the college, RCC was able to compete again in the spring of 2021 with a COVID shortened season. Riverland finished an impressive 28-13 qualifying for the NJCAA Region XIII tournament in St. Cloud. RCC was ranked as high as #10 in the NJCAA National Poll during the 2021 year. In 2022 Riverland went 22-25 on the season which qualified them for the NJCAA Region XIII Tournament once again. The spring of 2023 had a veteran group of sophomores return from the previous season which allowed RCC to hit the ground running. Riverland went an impressive 35-11 (13-3 MCAC South) qualifying for the NJCAA Region XIII Tournament as the overall one seed! The Blue Devils were MCAC Southern Division Champions in 2023 for the second time in four years and Hahn was tabbed MCAC Southern Division Coach of the Year! RCC was ranked as high as #13 in the NJCAA National Poll during the 2023 season. In the spring of 2024 Riverland finished 30-13 which was good for second place in the MCAC South. Once again Riverland qualified for the NJCAA Region XIII Tournament and fell one game shy of the North Plains District Tournament (Defeating Hibbing 8-4 & Ridgewater 12-2).

The Lakeville, MN native is no stranger to the Blue Devils program as he was the assistant coach under Scott Koenigs for five years. Hahn also was a student-athlete at Riverland playing baseball and basketball (2009 & 2010). Since rejoining the Blue Devils as a coach in 2013, Derek has had the opportunity to be a part of seven MCAC Southern-Division titles. Over the past eleven seasons the Blue Devils have compiled an impressive record of 300-125 (71%). Hahn’s fondest memory as a baseball coach at RCC came during the 2015 season when the Blue Devils set a school record twenty-four straight victories! Derek has had the opportunity to assist five NJCAA All-Americans during his time as a coach at Riverland.

During his two years as a player for the Blue Devils Derek was a starting catcher. Hahn helped the Blue Devils to a record seventy-three wins in just two seasons. In the springs of 2009 & 2010 the Blue Devils earned MCAC State Championships and NJCAA Region XIII Championships. Without question the highlight of Hahn's run as a player for the Devils was back to back trips to the JUCO World Series. In two seasons with the Devils Derek compiled a batting average of .321 (53-165) and always found himself on base with a career OBP of .523 (123-235). After finishing at RCC Hahn went on to play baseball at the University of Wisconsin Superior for one season. Derek eventually transferred to finish his career at Presentation College in Aberdeen, SD where he played basketball for the Saints too. Hahn is excited about the opportunity to lead the program he once played for. During the winter Coach Hahn is also the head basketball coach at Riverland.
